Welding Column & Boom
Welding Column & Boom (Welding Head Manipulators)
Welding Column and Boom, also known as Welding Head Manipulators, are widely used in industries where precision, consistency, and automation are crucial for large-scale welding applications. The equipment is designed to provide stable and accurate movement of the welding head, ensuring quality welds on large workpieces.
In Extra Light Duty and Light Duty models, up to 3 meters by 3 meters, the vertical movement of the Boom is achieved through a lead screw system. This arrangement ensures precise control, smooth lifting, and reliability in lighter welding operations. For Medium and Heavy Duty models, the vertical movement is driven through a rack and pinion mechanism with a counterweight arrangement, which provides higher strength, durability, and stability for heavy welding applications. The counterweight and Boom assembly are firmly held with metallic wire ropes, ensuring operational safety and balance during welding. In addition to this, all models, including those with lead screw drives, come with an anti-fall security provision as a standard feature, adding an extra layer of safety.
Advantages of Welding Column and Boom
- Increased Production.
- Allows maximum flexibility to welding head manipulation.
- Better weld quality with reduced labor.
- Dependable even for most critical weld quality.
- Assured high-quality welding non-dependent on operator's skill.
- The essential toll for automatic/semi-automatic welding.
- Ensures 360° radial accessibility to welding head, covering a vast area in the shop.
- The trolley car-mounted version gives accessibility to the full shop length.
- Easy high-quality automatic circumferential or longitudinal seam welding in conjunction with Rotator or Positioner.
- Indispensable for pipe/vessel fabrication shops.
The horizontal movement of the Boom is also driven through a rack and pinion system in all models, providing stable, accurate, and jerk-free motion. This ensures that the welding torch travels consistently, resulting in high-quality weld seams even across large surfaces. With its heavy-duty construction and precision design, the Welding Column and Boom system ensures vibration-free operation and long-term reliability in demanding industrial environments.
These machines are ideally suited for various welding processes such as Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) and MIG/MAG welding, and they are widely used in industries such as pressure vessel manufacturing, steel plants, shipbuilding, windmill tower fabrication, and heavy structural works. By combining strength, safety, and automation, Welding Column and Boom systems provide an essential solution for industries seeking efficiency, productivity, and consistent welding quality.
